Well you may have seen on my twitter feed that there will be no comic update this week. I’m just too behind on some important stuff I’ve got to get done. Unfortunately making these pages takes up most of my free time when I’m not at work or sleeping. So when things like putting together an ACTUAL book, or prepping files for digital readers, or getting registered for conventions comes around I have to make a cut somewhere. So I plan to hammer all this crap out and get back to making pages as fast as possible.
I want to get new pages up as fast as you want to read them, trust me. In the mean time here is a smattering of various artwork I’ve done, some JR related and some a bit more Disney related. The last image is a master copy I did from “The Art of Princess and the Frog”.
As soon as I’m back to work on the comic I’ll do a ustream so you can watch and chat while I finish the next page.
So there is no new comic today. I spent the weekend getting caught up on a bunch of other important Jackie Rose related things. Like getting the fixes made to this little book you see bellow =D
The cover came out a bit to dark and I’m making some fixes to a few interior pages as well. I’ve got a few redesigns in mind I will be working on, but besides that, the quality of the printing is top notch! I’m really excited to release this first issue. I’ll give you an update when I get a better idea. I would like to do some artist editions if anybody is interested in that.
I’ll keep you posted on that. New page will be up Thursday. Cheers!
-Josh
Thursday’s page is running late, so here is a sneak peek!
Also, be sure to stop by Michael Regina’s comic, Kevin and the Light of Destiny today! A certain red head makes a cameo appearance
Let me just go ahead and say that San Diego Comic Con was the most fun I have had in ever. Okay, now that’s out of the way, let’s get into the details.
Thursday:
Thursday involved me spending about $200 in the first twenty minutes. I went crashing into the webcomics and small press areas as well as the Oni booth and just went nuts. After that I went to find Mike Maihack of Cleopatra in Space and spoke with him for a bit, which is where I bumped into Stephen McCranie who creates Mal and Chad. Stephen and I spent most the rest of the day exploring the con and meeting all kinds of awesome people. Stephen’s been going to the con for the last four years or so and knows everybody and Scott Kurtz so I got a chance to get to know a few people I wouldn’t have normally.
Later Mike’s wife Jen, their friend Jeff and I all went to the Scott Pilgrim Panel which was awesome even though we were about five miles away from the stage. After that, it was time to head back home and get some sleep. Day 1 = Rocking success.
Friday:
We went to the zoo.
Saturday:
So we only had tickets for Thursday and Sunday, so we planned for Saturday to be a bit of a lazy day since we were sick of walking. Well, we planned to see a movie so we headed downtown. It was there that we stumbled upon a free screening of Scott Pilgrim vs The World that was starting at 6:30. It was 11:00 at the time. We decided that this was the most awesome thing possible, so we grabbed a quick bite and hurried to the line which we soon discovered that we WERE the line. With nothing better to do, we camped out. It wasn’t until about forty minutes later that another kid showed up to drop in line, followed by a few more here and there. It was in line that we got to know a great guy named James who we spent the better part of four hours talking to.
After much confusion by the security guards we starting moving into the theater around 5:30. This is when things started getting extra awesome. DJ Koala was dropping some beats and they were handing out limited edition Scott Pilgrim T-Shirts for various reasons (best costume, worst dressed, etc.). The friend we met in line, James, went up to the stage and informed them that me and my cousin had been in line since 11:30, so they brought both of us on stage for a dance contest (I’m always saying we need more dance contests in this world). So I was supposed to be a bird, and my cousin the ocean. Let me tell you, I am an awesome bird, as is made known by my awesome t-shirt. After that Edgar Write came out and everybody went nuts. He introduced nearly the entire cast and they tossed out bracelets (one of which I caught).
Then the movie began, and my friends. It. Is. AWESOME!!!!! I’ve never had the chance to watch a film with the actual cast, director and creator. So this gave me as well as everyone else in the theater a chance to clap and yell without seeming stupid (I never clap during movies, who’s supposed to hear me?). They all came out at the end once more, as well as freakin Tom Jane. Needless to say this was the greatest movie nights of my life, greatest Saturdays of my life, and one of the best freakin movies of my life. So there you have it, Saturday = Glorious victory.
Sunday:
Ah, Sunday. The last day of the con. I spent Sunday doing all the extra wandering that I didn’t really do on Thursday. I bought some more books and bumped into Stephen and got to say good bye to him.
I talked with Bryan Glass, writer of Mice Templar for a while and got to pick up a copy of the second book which he kindly signed AND sketched in for me (always awesome to get writer sketches).
Later on Mike and Jen invited me to dinner after the con where they were meeting a bunch of friends/artists/etc. At the restaurant I got to meet Dean Trippe for the first time which was pretty cool. We ate some delicious (and EXPENSIVE) fish and chips and then headed up to a post con party that Bill Willingham, creator of Fables was throwing. Bryan Glass showed up and we got to talk to him so more. He’s a really cool guy and shared the origin of Mice Templar with us as well as some encouraging words.
Overall Sunday = flippin awesome.
Monday:
Missed my flight, got moved to tomorrow, got bored, wrote a blog about my trip to San Diego.
Summary:
San Diego was awesome. No if ands or buts about it. I will be coming back next year, no questions. Next time however I will get the four day pass. Big thanks to Mike and Jen Maihack, Jeff (I don’t remember your last name), and Stephen McCranie for being awesome people to hang out with and making the con extra awesome. I’ll post some pictures later on when I get home. That’s all for now!

Just want to give you all a heads up on what the update schedule is going to look like for the next couple weeks. First off, no update today. I’ve been about a day and a half behind on my updates lately and I’m not able to catch back up to get on schedule. So I’m just going to skip Thursday this week and update on Monday.
After this however, I’m leaving for San Diego Comic Con on Wednesday the 21st and I wont be back until late Monday the next week. I’m going to try and take a lot of pictures and will post a big post-con blog post on Thursday. Then regular updates will resume on Monday, August 2nd. This will allow me plenty of time to get caught up and get some rest. Hope you don’t mind the little break, but I need it!
I will however try to do a ustream either tomorrow and/or Sunday (if I figure it out). I’ll keep you posted on that.
Further more if any of my artist friends, or artist fans would like to send in any Jackie Rose fan art I would be happy to post it up before I leave for San Diego and of course recognize you and your comic/website (if you have one). If you don’t get it to me before I leave, I will still post it after I get back. Just throwing that out there

I would like to title today’s review, “Three Beards”. Because that’s how many you will have if you see these films.
First off let’s start with Predators. Now I was extremely skeptical about this movie when I first saw the trailer. In fact, I think I may have just shaken my head and cried a little bit. Frankly, there hasn’t been a truly good Predator movie since the first one. I sat through about forty minutes of AVP then changed the channel. This is a series that has been really… really bad as of late.
This however could also have been said about the Batman movies. Then Batman Begins came out and blew our minds. It was the best Batman movie of all time. It changed the face of the series.
Predators may or may not be better then the original (I’ll leave that up to you), but my gosh it is most certainly the Batman Begins of the Predator series. This movie is everything you could ever want from an Predator movie. Great actors, great action, suspense, a million bullets, and some of the most testosterone filled fights ever.
I’ve always admired Adrian Brodey, and he seriously brings the ruckus in this film. Along with the skull smashing action, there is plenty of laughs and even character development (believe it or not).
If you’ve been waiting for an awesome summer action movie, wait no longer, go see Predators!
Now. The next film is not out yet, but I… I mean I… you know what, just watch the trailer and admire your new beard.
So I’ve decided that I need to start blogging more often. To get this newly found desire for communication rolling, I shall start with a new feature I would like to title–
TUESDAY REVIEW!
Here we go…
My good friend, Michael Regina of From Death Til Now fame, has recently launched his latest webcomic project “Kevin and the Light of Destiny”. While FDTN has a bit of a dark and brooding feeling, Kevin is truly designed with kids in mind. This new comic is a refreshing story that follows an unassuming boy named Kevin and his lust for adventure. KATLOD (I don’t know if he abbreviates it like that, but I do. I mean at least I do for the sake of this article. Right now anyways. What was I talking about? Oh yeah) KATLOD is lovingly rendered in full color and updates M-W-F. If you love adventure and monsters, then I highly recommend you check this comic out. (If you don’t love adventure and monsters, well then frankly I don’t know what kind of person you are.)
PS: KATLOD sounds like something you would need to make polyjuice potion. That’s a terrible abreviation.
So I’ve been working on the cover for the first issue and below are the results! I’m still tweaking it here and there, but this is the long and short of it. Book one will be composed of 6 issues, about 20 pages each. I’ll be releasing a new issue for sale about every 2.5-3 months. Looking forward to getting my first issue to the printers!
Jackie Rose started out as just a little side project of something different to do. It was originally set in a sort of alternate 70s/80s time frame. This is a sample of one of the original pages.
I made a decent bit of progress before I realized the story wasn’t holding up and I wasn’t totally satisfied with the character designs. As you can see, Eddie changed SIGNIFICANTLY, in that he’s not even the same person anymore.
Hope you enjoy this little bit of Jackie Rose history. I’ll be posting some more fun stuff throughout the week!
