So what to say about me…
About six years ago I decided I wanted to learn how to draw and make comics. This was a rather sudden and abrupt feeling, since my life goal up to that point was ONLY to be a Navy pilot. I was in the Naval Officer program in college, but I wasn’t on scholarship. I was having a bit of confusion about which path to really pursue in my life. I prayed for clear direction and not a week later all the students who were not on scholarship where removed from the NROTC program. There were two of us.
I took this as a pretty clear sign and my desire for a military career started to fade. I majored in Graphic Design at UNF and kept drawing and making comics almost every day of my life. My desire to be a pilot never faded however. That’s a passion I am still pursuing. I’m about half way through my private pilot’s license and should hopefully finish it this year (2010).
So anyways I ended up making a little comic called Wizard and Snort (I say little in a literal sense of the word, not the ironic kind). This grew and changed and then eventually became Newman. My work on these comics taught me a lot of what I know about visual story telling and what kind of stories I really wanted to tell. Newman has sort of disappeared into the void for now, but I doubt we have seen the last of him.
I came up with the idea for Jackie Rose in October of 2009 as an idea for a small comic to do in my spare time. This of course grew and developed out of control. I finished about 14 pages before I decided that I didn’t like my concept enough and scrapped it all to start over with what you see today. I can honestly tell you that this is my favorite project I have ever worked on. I have a lot of stories I want to tell with these characters and I expect Jackie Rose to be around for quite a while, Lord willing.
